R.B.I. Baseball: My Experience

I am not a true Baseball fan, I just wanted to start with that. I find Baseball to be the 2nd most boring Major Sport in the US (Golf being the worst). But that doesn’t mean I don’t have the urge to play a GOOD Baseball game, and by “GOOD” I mean FUN. I had the itch to play a Baseball game a little while ago and got MLB the Show 15, and that was a mistake. I played it for like a week, maybe 2 and tossed it aside. The whole Baseball Sim just brought out all the things I dislike in Baseball, what I really wanted was a game like “The Bigs”.

Man I played the piss out of that game, my favorite Baseball game series EVER! Sadly it isn’t around anymore, but missing this game (I MISS IT SO MUCH)  made me realize I needed a Arcade Style Baseball and what did I find? A newly released R.B.I. Baseball 2016! I checked out a few videos on YouTube of the gameplay and it sold me on it. So after the $20 purchase, download and install I played my first game.

R.B.I. Baseball isn’t going to stand up to the Graphics of “The Show” but it isn’t terrible, it looks like an Arcade Game. The Controls are VERY simple and that is fine by me. I think all together you will use X and Box along with the Directional Pad (or left stick) when playing the game. For someone who isn’t a real Baseball fan, this is fantastic as I can just pick up and play a game without worrying about not knowing how to do A or B. It did take a game or 2 to fully get a grasp of hitting the ball, but once you understand how to line up your batter to the pitcher you will be fine. Here is a little snip of Gameplay I took a few days back.

After watching that video the first thing you notice is that I swing at EVERYTHING. I am not patient enough to wait for the right pitch and I think that is another reason I prefer an Arcade Baseball game. But after that you can see the Graphics are not bad at all, the overlay graphics of the Score and Batter up look great! The Field looks pretty good, and while the Players don’t look like the actual players, you don’t actually really ever see their faces so it doesn’t even matter.

No I am not saying that MLB the Show is crap, I am just saying that I have had way more fun and a lot better games with R.B.I. Baseball. You can play a regular exhibition game from 5 to 9 innings, great for when you want to play a quick game but don’t have time for all 9. You can play “Season” mode and play 52, 82 or a full season of games, or you could just play the “Playoffs” mode where you take control of a team get thrown in to the Wildcard game and try to make it all the way. What I like about the Playoffs mode is that every time you start a new playoffs, the teams in the Playoffs are completely random! (this could be bad for some, but I like that feature).

R.B.I. Baseball 2016 provides me with everything I need in a Baseball game and I am happy with my purchase. If there is a R.B.I. Baseball 2017 I WILL be looking to obtain it in the future. Have you guys played R.B.I. Baseball 2016 at all? If you did, let me know what you thought of it! So until next time Cowabunga Dudes & Dudettes!
