So there it is! The trailer that was released yesterday for the NEW Ghostbusters game “one that will hit just a few days before the Paul Feig-directed cinematic reboot”. As you can see in the trailer it WILL NOT feature the new cast, nor will it feature the original cast! I think this was a brilliant move because if it had featured the new cast, people probably wouldn’t of even cared to look at this game just for that reason alone. I like that they went in a new direction with the characters here!
When I watched the trailer the first thing I thought of was Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime that I played on the PS3 a while back. They both have 4 totally new and different characters in the game, telling a different story and the most important comparison is the gameplay. If you never played Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime before (or this other zombie game with the same mechanics Dead Nation!) it is basically 1 to 4 players on the same screen (no split screen or anything) using the left stick to move and your right stick to shoot. It is a fairly simple set up and it looks like this new Ghostbusters game will be the same twin stick shooter, just look at the split shot below.
They look almost identical to me. But I am not saying this is a bad thing. I actually thoroughly enjoyed Sanctum of Slime (but it was a fairly quick game, which was a bummer) and if this new game is going to take what Slime did and bring it to the next level, than I am all for it. My only issue is, if this new game comes out being pretty much a copy of Slime, then I will be pretty upset. Growing up my 2 loves were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mutants in Manhattan article coming soon!) and Ghostbusters! There hasn’t been a great TMNT game since Turtles in Time and there hasn’t been a Great Ghostbusters game since the PS3 hit “Ghostbusters: The Video Game” (I wish they would bring both titles to PS4!). So you can say that I am pretty peeved and nervous that games they are bringing out with my beloved series are just going to flop like almost every single other one in the past.
I have to say though, I do like what I see. I love the way the Proton Pack looks and the rest of the equipment they showed in this quick trailer. The characters look great, I love the art style they chose to use, so Yes… I am pretty excited for this game and I hope with the more trailers they show the more different and better it will look compared to Sanctum of Slime!
